Ambrose Bierce was born june 24th, 1842 in Meigs County, Ohio. Info about his youth is slim but in 1857 he left home to live in Indiana working as a “printer’s devil”eventually he came to live with his uncle and attend the Kentucky Military institute where he dropped out a year later. After working odd jobs for multiple years he decided to follow the footsteps of his grandfather and he enlisted in the 9th Indiana Volunteer regiment of the Civil War. The thing Bierce saw during his time during the war help lead him to they style of writing he had, a dark imagery, an abrupt beginning, vague inclusion of time, and theme of war. After his time in the Service he became a journalist with his first job being a town crier in San Francisco, this job made him famous. With his new found fame he married a wealthy women and wrote his first to books while on a trip to Europe which he received as a wedding gift. Later in his life Ambrose was very opposed to the California railroad interests as he was the only manx gutsy enough to appose it. Just as the beginning there is very little known about the end of his life in 1913 after a tour of the battle fields of his youth Ambrose Bierce disappeared into revolutionary Mexico never to be heard from Again.
